Paint chips are broadcast into the wet epoxy coating to help break up the appearance of a solid color and help camouflage dirt. They provide some degree of slip resistance. When the entire surface is covered it is called a full chip and can be quite rough. This coarse surface can be sanded smooth or allowed to retain its texture for exceptional slip resistance. A clear coat over the chip helps to fill in voids for easier cleaning
